Unemployment in Quincy, Adams County dips slightly from last year

Overall workforce numbers remain on the decline
Unemployment figures around the area didn't change much last month compared to July of 2011. Local figures are slightly lower than last year, but higher than the previous month.
In July the unemployment rate in Adams County was 6.8 percent. That's down from 6.9 last year, but higher than 6.7 in June. There were 2,567 people looking for jobs last month, and the workforce year over year has shrunk by a couple hundred people.
The trend is the same for Quincy. In July the rate was 7.4 percent, compared to 7.5 in 2011 but higher than June's figure of 7.1. The workforce in Quincy has also decreased over the last year and was 22,129 last month.
Nearby, Pike and McDonough counties' figure remained flat year over year. Hancock County saw a slight decrease while Brown County's rate rose just a bit to 5.1 percent.
