Mr. QHS Pageant is Sunday night; Senior boys raise money for charity


Quincy Public Schools events occurring the week of March 18

MONDAY, MARCH 18

Dewey – 1st grade classes host a Blood Drive – A 1st grade service project benefitting the American Red Cross.  

TUESDAY, MARCH 19

Berrian Elementary – Ag in the Classroom - A representative from the University of Illinois Extension office comes into the classrooms to teach students about agriculture (plants, eggs, farm animals, etc.).   All of the opportunities are hands on. 

               

WEDNESDAY,  MARCH 20           

Baldwin Intermediate -   Dr. George Crickard, Orthopedic Surgeon,  speaks to 5th grade students about Bones and Skeletons -  9am and 2pm - Crickard comes to speak to the kids about what he does and how he came to be a doctor. 

Madison Elementary – Living History Museum –  9-9:45 am, 11-11:45am, 1:45 – 2:30pm -  3rd grade students have been studying historical figures.  The study concludes with a presentation to all Madison students, friends, and family.  Each 3rd grade student dresses and presents as a historical figure.   The students set up history exhibits and guests can ask questions.

Quincy Senior High School -   Operation Destination (Crash Reenactment)  -  8:20am – 11:20am - QHS, in cooperation with the state and local police, Quincy Fire Department, EMS, the State’s Attorney’s Office, the Coroner, Hansen and Spear Funeral Home, etc., will be conducting assemblies that include 1) a mock crash, 2) an ER/Memorial scene, and 3) a sentencing scene/victim speaker. Prior to entering the “Celebration Season,” students are reminded to make good choices and understand the risks associated with drinking and driving.     

THURSDAY,  MARCH 21

Ellington Elementary – 2nd grade travels to the Quincy Art Museum for a tour and lesson – 9 to 11 am or 1 to 2pm

Early Childhood and Family Center – Family Fit Night – 5:00 to 7:00pm - Blessing Rieman Nursing students host activities to promote and educate ECFC families on healthy living.

FRIDAY,  MARCH 22

Early Childhood and Family Center – Screening – 8:30 to 11:30 and 12:30 to 3:00 – Children are screened to see if they are eligible to attend the program.  These are students who will be part of the program next year. 

Elementary Schools-  3rd graders attend Young People’s concert at Baldwin – 10am

Ellington Elementary – Mett Morris does storytelling with the Kindergarteners – 12 to 1pm – Morris is a storyteller.  In the past she has done folktales and African American slave stories.  She also sings old songs that go along with the stories.                                                                                                                                    

SUNDAY, MARCH 24

Quincy Senior High School ­- Mr. QHS – 6pm – QHS Theatre - Pageant where boys vie for the title of Mr. QHS by showcasing their talents, formal wear, etc. All participants raise money for a charity of their choice.

District-wide – Teams are meeting weekly to align curriculum with Common Core standards in reading and math.
