"The Hinsdale teachers’ union is willing to reduce end-of-career raises to 3 percent over each of four years." Why should the Unions have anything at all to say about end-of-career raises? That practice should be illegal, period. Pensions on the whole should NOT be based on end of career salary! They should be based on the SSI formula, and thus we would not even be having this discussion. This is…

Hobart wants Everything from Quincy! Hobart in reality is giving nothing to Quincy! They get the lot for $1 and the city writes it off. Maybe in 10 years Quincy may get something out of the deal. I doubt it. There will be a lot of $'s on the table to make up. It sounds like a very sweet deal for the developer, especially in 10 years when they sell! Quincy to provide $1.8 million in equity? Have…

As much as pay-for-performance sounds good I believe that only works if the teacher goes with the students from grade-to-grade. One year of being dealt a random deck of kids is, I believe, impossible to compare between teachers. Why can't a grade school teacher go from grade to grade with their class? Why can't a middle school English/Math teacher go from grade to grade?

Also please explain what benefits this brings to quincy as a whole not just to the downtown. Those people renting those apartments aren't going to move quincy il just because there are new apartments available on 3rd & Maine those people already live here shop here and pay sales taxes here so the city gains nothing from them. The retail space MIGHT bring a couple of jobs and incremental sales…

Strawman: #Is This Really Your President?

4 months ago by Strawman

I want you to take a look at this kid’s face.  Look closely and you’ll see the image of your son, your nephew or the kid that used to come over and play in your back yard.  His name is U.S. Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi.  According to the authorities in Mexico Tahmooressi is guilty of gun running.  He also attempted to escape from a Mexican prison.  And he tried to commit suicide while in custody.

Yes, U.S. Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi, a veteran of 2 tours in Afghanistan and suffering from PTSD is guilty---of making a wrong turn and winding up in Mexico with 3 guns in his truck---over 2 months ago.

Tamara Holder of Fox News (http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2014/05/26/why-is-team-obama-unable-to-bring-home-marine-held-in-mexico/) does a wonderful job of painting the picture of this Marine’s demise—much better than I could.  Take a moment—read the piece and ask yourself: why is this kid still in a Mexican jail?

The problem I have with this American war hero’s situation is no one, save for a very few, seem to give a damn that this young man is still incarcerated and awaiting help from the country he served admirably for six years.

No one in the Obama administration cares. Not John Kerry, not Chuck Hagel, and, of course, not Barack Obama.

And apparently, no one in the media cares either.

This is the same media that gets its panties damp when the president flies to Afghanistan for surprise visit.  But this is also the same group of "journalists" who look the other way when one of ours, in this case, Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi, gets in a jam and needs help.

If the president really cared he would have done the right thing this past weekend.  He would have flown to Mexico and picked this kid up himself on Sunday and then taken Sgt. Tahmooressi to Arlington with him on Monday.  If the president were a real person and not the sock puppet he is, he would have had Sgt. Tahmooressi, in full dress uniform, on stage with him--and, in doing so, made his Memorial Day address something much more than the collection of empty words it turned out to be.

Barack would have been the hero he thinks he is JUST by doing that.  Seems like pretty simple stuff.

But Obama didn’t do the right thing, because the president doesn’t have the time or desire to come to the aid of Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi.  Just like he didn’t have the time to help Christopher Stevens, Sean Smith, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty.  He was "busy".  But we, after over 18 months, still don't know who or what he was "busy with."

It's obvious that Christopher Stevens, Sean Smith, Tyrone Woods, Glen Doherty and now Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi are not “his people.”

So to those of you who think the current regime is on the job to protect you, your family and your rights, just remember Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi.  Or how about this?  Go to Twitter and tweet #get this kid out of a Mexican jail NOW!!!    Maybe that will help.  Or shouldn’t Mrs Obama have tweeted that along with a photo of her sad face by now?
