The number required to do away with sales tax is an additional 15% on top of what we already pay. So it would be 22.75%. http://www.cato.org/publications/commentary/consi... And the universal rebate would make it progressive so it's really not too bad an idea if we can get rid of the IRS in…

The voters who approved this referendum also expected the construction work and engineering work to be LOCAL. But the Board has went out of town many times over the years most recently they went to Rockford for their printer business. They don't mind taking money from the local taxpayers but don't seem to feel the local folks are good enough to provide the services needed. Hannibal had no…

Well let's look at this. A failed construction worker and a a total tool bag want to hire a construction manager knowing full well that there would be no point to it, especially when they're from out-of-town, because we have plenty of firms here that can handle it. And they did this just a few months before they're up for re-election? Leroy Jethro Gibbs doesn't believe in coincidence,…

Strawman: I'm for Climate Change...

10 months, 2 weeks ago by Strawman

Well, it sounded like a good idea the time. But it wasn’t. Professor Chris Turney, a climate scientist and leader of the Australasian Antarctic Expedition and his team were going to document environmental changes at the South Pole. Unfortunately for Turney and his 74 global warming scientist friends, there was too much ice to start, much less complete the effort.  And so there they sat, trapped in a ship much too small to make the journey, as those in the liberal press provided play-by-play of their plight in the icy climate of the Antarctic.  Unfortunately, the world wasn’t told who these “unfortunates” were.  Instead they were labeled as “tourists” by the liberal press in the hopes, I suppose, that the climate change cult wouldn’t have to suffer yet another embarrassing event.

Looks like it worked.

Yes, Rush Limbaugh brought this to the attention of his listeners, but some of us who read more than the local daily, the New York Times and the Huffington Post, picked up on the story early in the game.  However a significant number of you didn’t and another significant number of you could care less. But you should.

Friends, the global warming folks are not going away. Regardless of whether there is global warming or climate change or whatever terminology the left hangs on this thing these folks are like bad breath—they show up every day.  Obama, Clinton, Al Gore and others are bound and determined to hang climate change, even though there isn’t any, on you and me. Their solution to the hoax that is climate change is to tax you and me--change our lifestyle as we now know it—and turn the United States of American into another third world country.

Why Strawman, would anyone in their right mind want to do such a thing, you ask?  My answer is so a small group of like-minded liberals can have more control over a larger group of people who are too disconnected to care.  And if knee capping that larger, “I don’t have time to be concerned” group, with more taxes and more restrictions under the guise of coming to terms with a fictitious crisis is the way, then so be it.

Whether you realize it or not this country has made a number of “green” changes in the past 50 years.  In the mid-1970s something called the catalytic converter was introduced to the American public. We all began using unleaded fuel and that was to help with emission problems that had been identified by the newly founded Environmental Protection Agency.  Over the years our cars have been made lighter, smaller and much more fuel-efficient. And to some extent that’s a good thing. But during that same time period the United States of America has virtually done nothing to wean itself away from the dependence on foreign oil. We still depend on Arab nations for the oil it takes to drive our economy—even though we have more crude oil and natural gas deposits than they do.

Have you ever wondered why no administration last 25 years has stepped up and said, ”Hey let’s build some new refineries!!”. No administration in the last 25 years has said, “Hey let’s drill in Alaska!”  Instead, our politicians have sat on their backsides and listened to the purveyors of global warming while using our tax dollars to finance the green energy crowd.

Does Washington have any answers to climate change or global warming? Of course not. In their eyes you and I are the problem. In their eyes the only way to fix this is to tax you and me more. So what do we do?

It’s time to cease funding these people. It’s time for the American public to cut off the overspending federal government.  Most of you got paid last Friday. Did you happen to notice that before you got your money the Feds and the State got theirs? Did you look at the last paystub you got in 2013 and add up all the money you paid in taxes and fees?  Staggering, isn’t it? And what about the taxes on fuel, energy, your cable bill and every transaction you’re involved in?  What about all the other fees you pay?  Those are taxes too, aren’t they?

Welcome to the New Year!!  Should 2014 be the year we fundamentally transform American back into the land of the free and home of the brave?  I’m for it, what about you?
