I watched Jon Stewart’s softball filled interview with Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius in my office Tuesday and came away wondering what the big to-do was all about. The headlines above the story in REAL CLEAR POLITICS indicated that Stewart, a gifted and talented comedian, had grilled Sebelius, which he did not. Instead he showed her great respect by allowing her to NOT explain the healthcare rollout, NOT explain why businesses were getting a one year waiver and to NOT explain why individual citizens WERE not granted that same one year favor. Sebelius provided zero answers and was, for the most part, incoherent during the entire “interview”.
Stewart’s “hands off” approach with Mrs Sebelius came as no surprise, but what did is this: he got right up to the edge, asked the question (“why?”) we’ve all be asking and then politely bailed her out by suggesting that the government institute a single payer system and be done with it. Stewart’s body language indicated he was really pulling for her to provide an understandable answer to why Obamacare is such a wonderful thing and how many had signed up, but he knew she couldn’t. So, he suggested that single payer be the solution, put his hand over his heart and announced that the direction the country was going in now (market based insurance) was crazy, and gimmie some single payer!!!
And that, in my opinion, was the Left's plan all along. Single payer healthcare issued by, managed by and controlled by Washington. Yes, the same Washington that can’t pass a budget, spends more than they take in, pass unwanted and unnecessary legislation and is accountable to no one. That Washington.
To date, no one in the media has pinned down ANYONE in the Obama administration in regards to Affordable Healthcare. Press Secretary Jay Carney still has all his teeth, Sebelius lied her ass off on Stewart’s show and walked away unscathed and no one has dared to challenge any of those on the left to a toe-to-toe debate on the issue. The reasons: there’s no one in the media, save for a right-wing talk show host or two, brave enough or qualified enough to do so, and those on the left have not and WILL not be backed into that corner. They’re not that dumb.
About the only guy who could get close enough to score some points on one of DC’s most powerful is Senator Ted Cruz. A Cruz/Reid, Cruz/Pelosi, Cruz/Schumer or a Cruz/Obama faceoff is something I’d pay good money to witness.
What about a Cruz/Durbin debate? That already happened…..and Durbin is still picking his taste buds up off the floor.
I wonder if Obamacare will cover that?
