Strawman: Chris Dorner-America's Most Popular Victim
4 months ago
Chris Dorner is a name that will be forgotten in a few weeks by those of us who have other things to deal with. We’ll reach out, say a prayer for the families of the loved one’s he murdered, and move on through life, attempting to make ends meet while the Washington’s power brokers use new words like “revenue” to attempt to describe what most of us know as taxes.
Dorner was a product of the left, citing numerous left-wing Hollywood types as his heroes. He had high praise for Charlie Sheen, the drug addled star, who left a successful sit-com on CBS for a more secure spot on Lindsay Lohan Avenue. Sheen, always one to grab for the limelight, even gave Dorner a shout-out and asked him to call. But Sheen didn’t leave a number. Imagine that?
I Googled Chris Dorner and found a number of interesting views, including one from Salon.com, entitled, “Chris Dorner is Not a Monster.” There were others, but that one had the best headline—I thought. And then I found a blog on CNN.COM by our old friend, Van Jones.
Jones, best remembered as the guy who Glenn Beck exposed for being a left-wing, money grabbing, community organizer (Wow!! Who does that sound like?) and Obama's "Green Czar", shared these views:
In the wake of Chris Dorner's death, much of the talk has already turned to his political views. In the wake of a tragedy, it is understandable to ask why this happened. It is appropriate to discuss ways to keep it from happening again. But we should draw the line at suddenly giving an exalted place in our national discourse to the political rantings of a murderer.
What Jones is saying here is; “nothing to see here. Dorner is one of our guys, so shut up citizen and move your sorry ass along.”
Today, with the families of the dead still grieving, it is very hard for me to shift away to focus on Dorner's political views. The families of the victims are still in shock and mourning. Think of their friends and relatives, who are still shocked and devastated. How much would it hurt them if they turned on the TV and heard, instead of tributes to those lost, pundits going on about a crazy man's Facebook manifesto?
Furthermore, why should any of us participate in giving Dorner exactly what he wanted? We should not validate his quest for attention by discussing his political thinking, especially not while mourning families are planning funerals.
I’m sorry Van, but isn’t that exactly what the liberal media has done in EVERY case where there’s murder and mayhem involved? Haven’t your buddies here at CNN, and the rest of the alphabet networks, tripped all over themselves to spin the deranged killer of the moment as a card carrying member of the 24/7 club on rushlimbaugh.com? Christ, even some of your groups most notable leftist politicians have rushed in front of cameras and microphones to depict the deranged as a member of the Tea Party, NRA, NFL and the local Moose Lodge---only to find out later they were all kinds of wrong. Hey Van--Mr.Pot meet Mr. Kettle!!
The people who deserve to be talked about today are the victims of this violence and the people who are trying to make positive change in peaceful, lawful ways.I don't want to reference Dorner in any way except for what he was -- someone who was very disturbed, who needed mental health support and who cruelly took the lives of those devoted to service.
Hey Van, don’t forget to throw a “mean spirited” in there somewhere, because we all know you’re dying to use that in a sentence. And Van, Dorner was a black guy, right? Is the general public allowed to consider that for a moment? Liberal, left-wing, gun loving, life taking serial killer? Sound like anyone you know?
Why don’t we just call it as it is Mr. Jones; you, and those like you are just upset Chris Dorner wasn’t white, the president of the local NRA chapter, a Mormon and a convicted sex offender. Because we BOTH KNOW if that had been the case, the crap you wrote and posted on CNN.COM would have had an entirely different tone and tenor.
Van Jones; while a complete waste of time……. is a true example of the preening, pompous, “we’re getting even with Whitey" type that litter the liberal airways and march to the beat of the Obama drum. And, like it or not, they’re here to stay.
