Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon today said she will not be a candidate in 2014 for lieutenant governor
Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon today said she wants to remain in public service, but will not be a candidate in 2014 for the office she now holds.
“I have enjoyed my service as lieutenant governor, and as I look forward to completing my term, I am looking for an opportunity to serve the state in an even more effective capacity,” she told The State Journal-Register.
She said she has not yet decided what office to seek in 2014, and will announce her political plans later.
“I think there are a couple of options where I have that opportunity and I’ll be looking at all of those options,” she said.
Some speculation has been that Simon might seek the office of attorney general if the Democratic incumbent in that office, Lisa Madigan, runs for governor. Madigan has said she is considering a run for the state’s top office.
