Courtesy Rides operator has filed an independent candidacy to run for 5th Ward Alderman
Quincy Alderman Mike Rein (R-5th Ward) has filed a challenge against Jonathan Schoenekase, who last week filed an independent candidacy to run against Rein in the April general election.
Rein said he is contesting Schoenekase's candidacy on several levels, claiming that Schoenekase doesn't live in the 5th Ward, several of his signatures are not from residents of the 5th Ward and Schoenekase is ineligible for municipal office because he is a convicted felon.
Schoenekase ran up against the city while operating his Courtesy Rides service which provides rides for people who have had too much to drink. Schoenekase was denied a license to operate as a taxi in 2010.
Quincy City Clerk Jenny Hayden said the Electoral Board will take up Rein's challenge Thursday morning at 9:30 in the City Council chambers.
