"The CPI market basket represents all the consumer goods and services purchased by urban households. Price data are collected for over 180 categories, which BLS has grouped into 8 major groups. These major groups, with examples of categories in each, are as follows: • Food and beverages (ham, eggs, carbonated drinks, coffee, meals and snacks); • Housing (rent of primary residence, fuel oil, bedroom…

What do you mean it would be $8.00 now not accounting for higher cost of living. The governments own website http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl?cost1=.75&... shows that .75 in 1947 would have the equivalent buying power as $8.02 today. That DOES take into account higher costs of living. ITS…

Illinois bill requires prescription for cold meds

4 months, 4 weeks ago by Associated Press

Bill would impact any cold and flu drug with pseudoephedrine

Legislation proposed by a state senator would require anyone with a cold to get a doctor's prescription to buy certain medicine.

The bill would impact any cold and flu drug with pseudoephedrine. The decongestant is an ingredient used to make methamphetamine.

The measure is sponsored by Peoria Democrat Sen. Dave Koehler.

State law already requires any drug containing pseudoephedrine to be kept behind pharmacy counters. Stores record the IDs of people who buy the medicine and there are limits on how much can be purchased.

Pekin police Chief Greg Nelson says the measure could "be a game changer in Illinois for meth" if it's approved, although it's expected to face resistance.

Oregon and Mississippi require prescriptions for the medicine.
