Bowling Green has a new police chief, and he’s a familiar face.
The Board of Aldermen agreed Monday night to hire Don Nacke.
The 60-year-old St. Charles native was a deputy at the Pike County Sheriff’s Department for 30 years. For almost the last decade, he has served as deputy juvenile officer in the 45th Judicial Circuit covering Pike and Lincoln counties.
He plans to retire from that job as well as give up his 25-year stint with the Bowling Green Volunteer Fire Department, where he currently serves as chief.
Nacke will take over as police chief in February and will replace Don Wickenhauser, who resigned in August after four years on the job to take a similar job in suburban St. Louis.
More than 20 people applied for the Bowling Green position. Nacke will be paid 49 thousand dollars a year, a little less than what Wickenhauser made.
