State Representative will give up minority leader duties to focus on run for treasurer
From From sj-r.com:
Illinois House Republican Leader Tom Cross is stepping aside to run for state treasurer, creating jockeying among House Republicans to replace him.
The two leading contenders are Rep. Raymond Poe of Springfield and Rep. Jim Durkin of Western Springs.
In a call to members of his caucus Wednesday, Cross said he is considering a run for statewide office and would be stepping aside as House minority leader. He said he would like a replacement named by the first week of October, although Republicans could act earlier than that. Cross will continue to serve the remainder of his term as state representative.
In a statement released from his political office, Cross said he would announce his plans in the next two weeks. However, state Sen. Darin LaHood, R-Dunlap, said Cross told him recently that he was planning on running for treasurer. LaHood has been mentioned as a possible candidate for the job.
“I’m 100 percent supportive of Tom going forward as treasurer,” LaHood said. “I think he brings a good skill set to that job.”
