Very true, everyone has to have a first time. But what about the city attorney and the rest of the council? Nobody?

Your right, the pensions that the city chose to underfund for years because they could, and now it's all our fault. For someone in business, don't understand how you do not understand the concept that you close a station, you don't just reassign the firefighters, because then there are no savings. You close a station because you want to lower the number of firefighters, period. You know…

Once again, I will ask you: Do you understand business at all? The City can't print money. The police and fire pensions have thrown the entire system so far out of whack that the City can't make "want to" decisions; it is a "have to" situation. You can cry the blues all you want about the poor, poor firefighters, but their greed over the years has contributed greatly to this mess, so what…

I haven't read a single comment about laying off firefighters, except, perhaps, from your Chief. You are paid, and paid very well, to do a job. If you don't like it, quit. People will line up to take your spot. No one is complaining about the services you provide. The problem is cost. Why is it so hard to understand that the City coffers are not a bottomless pit? Your pensions have…

Your condescending attitude is just plain insulting. Thousands and thousands of small business owners have suffered in this economy over the past decade or so. Should we all "reinvent" ourselves? What an idiotic statement! It is patently obvious to me from the comments you have made in different discussions that you have lived a life of privilege and have never given an honest day's work in…

How many mayors take office that are not rookies? I for one am done with professional politicians.

I wonder if there is a scramble to check and see how many times this "mistake" had happened before?

It's never going to be his fault....which is a good thing for him because if spring had done what this guy does regularly on his off hours we never would have heard the end of it

Of course we could be lining up for circus music too.

Mizzougrad - Quincy City Budget hearings and Council meeting - Quincy, IL News - QuincyJournal.com

What's funny is all the small business owners commenting on here, they know how to run a business, fair enough. That has nothing to do with how you fight a structure fire. You folks say we can't afford the fire protection we have, fair enough. But right now, and yes I am a firefighter, we barely have the minimum amount of firefighters now show up on scene to fight a structure fire safely…

Rookie mayor

Yes, I understand business very well. Perhaps you need to consider a change in yours? Nothing worse than spinning your wheels and not get ahead. It helps me understand that you're just bitter and that's why you think no one else deserves to do well. You're obviously a hard dedicated worker, maybe find another product or service to provide and reinvent yourself.

Lets try this. We get the city administration and the city employees to agree to a 3rd party committee. the committee do a study and see what our employees get paid compared to other comparable employees in other towns. If the wage needs to come down we lower them, if they need to go up, we raise it. sound fair?

I am a QND graduate, but this is an embarrassment to me. How many State championships would satisfy Orne? Five? Eight? Ten? Or will he never be satisfied? It would be a different story if he won all those trophies with "QND kids," but we all know that isn't the case.

Do you understand business at all? Yes, my gross revenue has increased, but my expenses have increased at a greater rate. The bottom line is that I have less money to work with at the end of the day! I would LOVE to give my employees raises every year, but I just can't afford it! You definitely live in a fantasy world if you think that employees are "entitled" to raises.

Unless your initials are l d we established you're not a lawyer. Over the past 25 yrs? Not sure, but I can do some math and let you know. Actually stopped writing checks and went electronic while back. But what is your point? If I don't pay a competitive wage I know another employer right down the street will. I don't mind paying my employees a fair wage

No, it would be the CUE... (the definition Nazi), and, it does.

migraine_in_qcy - City/Firefighters labor contract must be voted on again - Quincy, IL News - QuincyJournal.com

Huh? Who's on first? Geez, can our council at least ACT like they know what they're doing?

migraine_in_qcy - Quincy City Budget hearings and Council meeting - Quincy, IL News - QuincyJournal.com

yesqcy, you're living in a dream world. Raises for employees of one type of employer are hardly representative of what most people are seeing. Small businesses are cutting back to try and compensate for increasing expenses, and as the employees who remain employed, we're expected to take up the slack and do more without increases.
