OK we can link 2 ballot measures together - we raise the min wage to $481 per hour. That way everybody who works in Illinois will make more than $1 million. Add the 3% surcharge on top then the government will have more money than it could ever need - at least for a year or 2. For those who think this doesn't make sense - it doesn't but it makes as much sense to me as this surcharge does.…

So how is it the County is able to get salt thru CMS at a cheaper rate?

Aren't local community Fire Boards autonomous from any state requirements and can determine their own hiring standards? I don't believe Quincy's Fire Board gives any preference or points to applicants for prior training or education for appointment to the fire department but they should.

Don't the rich already pay more in income taxes? 6% of a million is more than 6% of say $50,000, so the rich pay more now. Democrats are using these ballot measures to wage class warfare and increase voter turnout for democrats. Democrats don't care one bit about the little guy, they just want to maintain their power and control with these ballot questions.

A Cook County court ruling against term limits, who'd a thunk it. The Cook County judges have to protect their buds who hand out the graft. I didn't read the opinion so on what basis they ruled the measure didn't meet "constitutional requirements" I don't know. But you can bet the progressive democrats will do everything they can to keep the measure off the ballot because it would…

Bush sat on his thumbs and watched the economy bleed jobs the last few months of his administration. Much of the downturn in the economy can be blamed on a law that Bush and fellow Repubs passed in late Sept 2001, allowing no security/ backing on some bonds. and he started the bank bail out process before he left office.

yawn, it's going to be hard to stop the loss of factory jobs when the state is taxing the jobs right out of Illinois.

When I first saw the headline I thought it was a story about the $100,000 club in the Quincy School Board Administration. Well,--- we will catch up with the state soon. I will vote no on new buildings until the Quincy School District pays Admin salaries in line with Quincy industry. Fat chance----- We are paying the superintendent over $200,000 a year?--------Serious?? No,,I mean are you serious…

Agreed. But unfortunately, more and more single mothers with nothing beyond a high school education, if that, work these low paying jobs. Perhaps these unions should focus on training them for better jobs rather than getting them more pay for low-skill work.

Not really, sounds like good training for the governor's job.

I think it's disgusting that we prohibit felons from municipal office by state law but then can have felons run for state office...and congress... Is that the Peter Principle in action or what?

onehawkfan - Back pay, OT pushes Illinois government’s ‘$100,000 club’ to 7,800 members - Quinc

Guess what happens to these large salaries? They turn into large pensions!

WarCry - Schoenakase on WTAD\'s Mary Griffith Show - Quincy, IL News - QuincyJournal.com

The only prohibition I'm aware of for felons in politics here in IL is at the municipal level. From county on up, I don't believe there is any restriction. But if you decide to run, you better know that your past WILL come up, and if you don't want to talk about it, you might just want to stay home.

Of more interest to me are the 10 VA nurses making over $100,000 Wow....according to this the best-paid 10% made over $94,000 http://money.usnews.com/careers/best-jobs/registe... So how many VA nurses are there in total in the county?

qfingers - Fast food workers vow civil disobedience - Quincy, IL News - QuincyJournal.com

Why should ANY profession have a minimum anymore? Minimum wage, historically, was targeted at single-bread-winner families. Now that both spouses work in most cases the need for minimum wage is lessened due to that fact. You also don't need to pay teenagers a "living" wage.

Lincoln1858 - Schoenakase on WTAD\'s Mary Griffith Show - Quincy, IL News - QuincyJournal.com

I guess that it only makes sense that, in the great state of Illinois, where 4 of our last 7 governors have spent time (or are currently) in jail, that a CONVICTED felon could run for public office!

Quijote57 - Fast food workers vow civil disobedience - Quincy, IL News - QuincyJournal.com

I can see police officers or medical workers or other necessary workers getting $15/hr minimum, but fast-food workers? All they do is work to provide a luxury. Most of them could and/or should go get some vocational training in order to get a job that pays better, such as Cindy Enriquez mentioned in the article. If she really wants to be a police officer, then I am sure there are scholarships or loans…
