Rebel Media: "Frankly, John is going to win his election"
9 months, 2 weeks ago
Quincy lawyer and prominent Illinois statehouse lobbyist Mike McClain is hosting a fundraiser next month for fellow Democrat John Sullivan, the incumbent state senator from Rushville representing the 48th District.
McClain hosts several fundraisers for Democrats at his posh Peach Tree Lane estate in the Willow Creek subdivision, so this is nothing new. It is the opening Sunday of the National Football League season, so that might keep some folks away (I kid, I kid).
It will be interesting to see if Ross Miller, the chairman of the Adams County Central Democratic Committee, attends. He and McClain had a major falling out when Miller and his union brothers grabbed the party leadership. McClain, a master dealmaker in Springfield (just ask Capitol Fax's Rich Miller), doesn't like to lose.
There were some union pickets organized recently and the new Walgreen's under construction at 17th and Broadway. McClain represents Walgreen's as a lobbyist. I don't think the pickets weren't a coincidence.
So if Ross Miller (who was seen wearing a John Sullivan t-shirt at the Adams County Fair a couple of weeks ago) attends, things could be frosty.
McClain's letter is so touching and thoughtful:
"As you know, most fundraisers have a set contribution amount per person," McClain writes. "Usually in Quincy it is $50.00. But, John and Joan (the senator's wife) are sensitive to the economy and not "overasking".
Now what in the blue Hell does that mean? Hey, if you're so concerned, don't ask for the freaking money at all. What a load of crap.
This next part slays me:
"This party will have an Irish theme for the Sullivans. Appropriate, right? Checks should be made payable to "Citizens for John Sullivan".
Since it is an Irish theme, I think the attendees should show up and give potatoes. Hey, I wonder if any African-American legislators in Chicago are having "black themed" parties.
McClain's has some points he makes to the people he's not asking for much money from:
John Sullivan was voted "BEST" Democratic Senator last year by his fellow Senators-BOTH PARTIES-and readers of Capitol Fax.
Well, I'm happy the senator won a couple of popularity contests, especiall the one in the statehouse newsletter where McClain is prominently featured by Rich Miller (Remember, RICH Miller is the president of the Mike McClain Fan Club and ROSS Miller...isn't.)
Frankly, John is going to win his election...A poll by the Illinois Manufacturers Association in February had him up 22 points and Capitol Fax (there they are again) reported a benchmark poll that showed John up by 35 points in late spring...He is a winner.
I would bet a beer or two that it was McClain who fed the poll results to Capitol Fax. I might win, I might lose.
Oh...and HIS election....not THE election. That's nice too.
BTW, the campaign of Randy Frese (Sullivan's opponent) conducted its own polling a few weeks back. They did not release/leak the results. Also, Whitney Schlosser, who was brought in by the state party to work the Frese campaign, quit a couple of weeks ago. Draw your own conclusions on both of those issues.
