Rebel Media: Early voting is not for me

Rebel Media: Early voting is not for me

I'm just not a big fan of early voting.

I like Election Day.

I like getting to the polls first thing in the morning. I like the familiarity of my election judges. I vote at Trinity Church and it's been that way for a couple of years now. Either there or First Presbyterian Church were always fine with me.

I like visiting other polling places. I like to see where the count is at noon to see if turnout is lagging or ahead of the previous election. Adams County usually turns out at around an 80 percent clip for Presidential elections.

I like to see if weather will be a factor.

I like to talk to poll watchers to see what trends they are picking up. I like to hear the gossip about how certain groups are busing people to the polls.

I like to watch the stream of cars come into the Courthouse from all over Adams County, bringing in ballots and machines to be counted. I like to see who the local political parties pick to serve as poll watchers.

I like to study the reactions of candidates as they get their results. I like to watch the level of alcohol consumption rise as those results come in.

I like wi-fi on Election Night.

I like listening to local analysis like Quincy Journal and WTAD will provide starting at 7 p.m. on Election Night (shameless plug).

My wife likes it when Election Day is done. I'll have to take a nap the following day as I'm going to watch "Hairspray" Wednesday night at Quincy High School at 7:30 p.m. (another shameless plug as Alex Gough is in the musical as Wilbur Turnblad. Buy tickets by calling 224-3774).

One week to go.
