REBEL MEDIA: Another driving range doesn't solve Westview's problem

REBEL MEDIA: Another driving range doesn't solve Westview's problem

It's about a mile from Westview Golf Course to the Knights of Columbus. A straight shot on Illinois 96/S. 36th Street.

Head south of Westview, then go west on Payson Road. When you get to South 24th, head south to the Sheridan Swim Club where the Christensen Golf Academy makes its home. It's about a 3.5 mile drive.

So with a two driving ranges and a par 3 course already in proximity to Westeview Golf Course, why would the Quincy Park District be thinking about possibly sinking hundreds of thousands of dollars into converting Westview's back nine holes into another par 3 course and driving range?

That idea was floated at last week's Quincy Park Board meeting. It was an idea that wasn't supposed to be made public just yet. Their first instincts were right, this plan shouldn't have made it to a public meeting.

Westview bleeds money every year. Every year the blame goes to the heat, the rain, the snow or whatever, but the bottom line is fewer people are playing.

I'm not blaming the Park District or Westview. I love the course and I've never had an issue with the staff or service. I just believe with a tighter economy many people are playing less golf.

This idea needs to go away and if the Park District can't put Westview in the black, hire a golf course management company to run it and make it their problem.
