You really have just as much influence over the zoning board process as anybody living in the city does. They are appointed and you can appeal your case, The only thing you're missing directly is an alderman who may or may not be on your side anyways. But I'm sure you'd find the nearest ward representatives to be responsive to your case even though you can't vote for them. Doesn't…

Quincy unemployment sees big jump in January

More than 1,700 people were out of work to start the year

Quincy’s unemployment rate jumped to 8 percent in January.

The increase is nearly a full percent higher than January 2012 (7.3 percent) and nearly a percent and a half higher than December 2012 (6.6 percent).

Adams County’s rate for January was at 7.4 percent, also higher than January 2012 and December 2012.

According to the statistics provided by the Illinois Department of Employment Security, there were 1,728 unemployed in Quincy in January 2013 compared to 1,580 in January 2012.

Five years ago, in January 2008, there were 1,160 unemployed in Quincy.
