Board of Education Chairman Gery Chico says the benchmarks set under the No Child Left Behind Act don't accurately reflect individual student progress.
The state has applied for a waiver to the NCLB standards.
Chico says the board would prefer to implement other ways to assess student success rather than do so on just a few days of testing.
