Kindergarten Read Day highlights children's literature in a unique and enjoyable way.  Teachers in each of the Kindergarten classrooms have spent several weeks organizing a day dedicated to getting their students excited about reading and writing.  This year the teachers have chosen to read books by the author, Eric Carle.

Carle has been writing children's books for more than 40 years, and he is particularly

known for the pictures and illustrations in his books being done in a collage format.  Carle is also known for using small living creatures in his book to honor his father and to recapture happy times he spent with him as a child.  Carle's books include "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," "The Mixed-up Chameleon," "Papa, Will You Get Me the Moon?," "The Grouchy Ladybug," "The Quiet Cricket," "The Busy Spider," "Pancake, Pancake," and "Walter the Baker," to name just a few.  Each teacher is also planning activities to enhance the reading of each Carle book.  These follow-up activities will include games, math, music, social sciences, dramatic play, and arts and crafts.

All Kindergarten students from the four Quincy Catholic Elementary Schools and St. Maryin Mt. Sterling,approximately95in all, will be in attendance.  Each student will have the opportunity to visit each reading center and to complete all follow-up activities and projects.  Each student will receive a t-shirt commemorating the day, as well as a book by Eric Carle.  The day will include lunch and refreshments. Several parents of the Kindergarten students will be assisting the Kindergarten teachers and students throughout the day.
