Quincy University kicked off its 2012-13 QU Fund campaign, Building for the Future, with a luncheon in the Hall of Fame Room today and announced a $1 million goal for the fund. More than $275,000 in gifts, pledges and intentions have been received toward the QU Fund from alumni and friends to date.
"Alumni and friends are encouraged to support both annual operating expenses and endowment. In this way, we are addressing the current and the future needs of the University,” says Julie Bell, Quincy University associate vice president for university advancement. “In addition, we will be raising restricted funds for projects identified in the Campus Master Plan, such as reinvestment in North Campus facilities and the preservation of the 100 year old QU Chapel."
During the reception, Bell introduced Bill Metzinger ’74, as chair for the 2012-2013 QU Fund. Metzinger is the chief financial officer at Dot Foods Inc., a $4 billion dollar nationwide food re-distributor with corporate offices based in Mount Sterling Illinois. He received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Quincy College in 1974 and became a CPA the following year. He served on the Quincy University Board of Trustees from 1994 to 1999 and again from 2004 to present. As Chairman of the Board in 2006-07, during a period of key change for Quincy University, Metzinger was instrumental in the presidential search and ultimate hiring of current QU President Robert Gervasi. Metzinger is and always has been a regular financial supporter of Quincy University. Bill is also a past alumnus of the year.
“We are committed to a successful 2012-13 QU Fund drive to enhance the educational experience of our students and provide the many benefits our community enjoys,” says Metzinger.
Friday’s program included remarks by Bell, President Robert A. Gervasi, PhD, Metzinger and Matt Bergman ’99, director of advancement. Fr. John Doctor, OFM, vice president for mission and ministry, delivered the closing prayer. In addition to its base of local volunteers, QU plans to engage younger alumni volunteers utilizing social media streams. Local volunteers for the 2012-13 QU Fund include:
