QPD warns of fake energy surveys
8 months, 2 weeks ago
It appears someone may be trying to take advantage of Quincy citizens or confuse them as the City prepares to push an energy consolidation effort that will be on the November ballot.
From Quincy Police:
Recently, citizens in our community have been contacted by individuals going door to door stating they are with Ameren. These individuals state that they are conducting surveys about electricity costs and that they have been authorized by the City of Quincy to complete these surveys. Neither Ameren, nor the City of Quincy is conducting surveys about electricity use.
Individuals who solicit door to door sometimes use high pressure tactics in order to get people to give information or purchase products. High-pressure sales tactics are often a part of fraudulent activity. Don't let yourself be hurried, intimidated or coerced. The salesperson is at your door uninvited and remains there only at your courtesy. Ask to see the salespersons peddlers’ license and if they cannot produce one, close the door and call police.
If you have any questions or for more information, contact the Pro-Act Office at the Quincy Police Department at 228-4485.
