What I've heard from family friends (via Facebook comments) is that his mom was at work, so he was at a friends/babysitters. She was coming to pick him up when she got off work. Reportedly, he was coming out of the house and she was sitting in the car waiting for him when he was shot. He was sitting right outside the front door waiting for his mother to pick him up. He was not unsupervised. This is what his family says. Please do not be too quick to blame parents. They have enough to deal with.

I would hazard that the teachers and unions have a different reason than the parents.
