Illinois hunters harvested more than 72,000 deer during the first weekend of the firearms deer hunting season.
The preliminary harvest total of 72,111 is 5,000 more than last season's opening weekend.
The top deer county once again was Pike County where hunters bagged 2,108 deer.
Adams County came in third overall with 1,938.
About 60 percent of the deer taken the first weekend were bucks.
