Missing Palmyra Man Found Dead

21 year old Christopher B. Witt was discovered this morning in Barry

A missing Palmyra man has been found dead in Barry.

The Pike County Sheriff's Department received a tip this morning around 7:15 a.m. that a vehicle matching the description of the one that 21 year old Christopher B. Witt was believed to be driving was discovered in an industrial parking area in Barry.

Pike County Sheriff Paul Petty said that deputies responded and confirmed that it was the vehicle and a search commenced around 8:50 a.m. this morning.

"Deputies discovered the body of the missing individual (Witt) approximately 140 feet from where the vehicle was parked."

 

Witt's body was found a short time later outside a fenced area below the water tower in Barry.

 

Petty said that Witt had walked up a steep embankment and appeared to have fallen several times

 

He was found to have self inflicted injuries consistent with what the Marion County Sheriff's Office had reported earlier in the week. According to Petty, those injuries didn't cause but did lead to his death.

 

Witt was reported missing on Monday evening. At the time, police said that he could be a danger to himself and may have needed medical attention. Petty said that Witt had been there several days possibly since the day he was reported missing.
