John Wood Community College seeks input from the community on new Mt. Sterling Location
John Wood Community College is preparing to move its Mt. Sterling Education Center to a new location at 108 North Capitol Avenue. As part of its preparation, the College is seeking input from the community to match the educational needs of the area with the programs and services offered at the new facility.
"We want to give community members the opportunity to share their thoughts on what types of classes and programs they would like to see John Wood offer," Kent Hawley, JWCC associate dean of dual enrollment and regional centers said. "We can offer general education classes like math and history, but also want to provide professional development courses for the area's workforce as well as personal enrichment offerings."
Hawley said the College's investment in a larger facility shows JWCC's commitment to increase offerings for Brown County and nearby communities in Cass, Hancock, Schuyler, Morgan and Scott counties.
"We have been very fortunate to have been provided space by DOT Foods since the early 1990's," Hawley said. "However, we want to deepen our investment in Brown County to provide a facility that residents can call home for their educational needs, without the travel expense of attending another JWCC center in another part of the district."
JWCC will offer classroom, online and open learning credit courses as well as community education when the facility officially opens in the fall. The new center will feature two smart classrooms, a computer lab, conference room and offices.
"We want to offer a handful of courses this summer as we evaluate the feedback from the community," Hawley said. "After evaluating the community's response, we will announce a full slate of offerings for the official opening this fall."
Community members can share input on the types, times, and length of classes to be offered at the new location by contacting Dee Wintjen at the current JWCC Mt. Sterling Education Center on Buckhorn Road. Wintjen is also available by email at dwintjen@jwcc.edu<mailto:dwintjen@jwcc.edu> or by phone at 217-641-4144.
