The 33-year-old wins Country Showdown Sunday night put on by Kohl Wholesale and Coyote Country 99.5 WCOY

Thirty-three year old Jonathan Brown of Quincy says he's always loved to sing and even has tapes from when he was 2 years old singing the Star Spangled Banner and Jesus Loves Me. Though he's never done any type of singing competition before, you wouldn't have been able to tell. Brown wasn't even planning on entering the Country Showdown but his wife must've known her husband had a talent because she pushed him to do it and said if he didn't give it a shot, he would regret it. She was right. Afterwards, Brown describes his reaction when hearing his name being called as the winner.

"My, I was so surprised," says Brown, "there were several others I thought did a lot better than I did so, I'm still kind of shocked. I didn't think there was a chance."

Out of 10 contestants, Brown was the only one that chose to sing a cappella; he said he thought it might make him stand out. Obviously, it didn't hurt him one bit. He described himself as a "secret shower singer" and has never even had a singing lesson.

After it all, Brown was extremely humble but most of all, grateful.

"I just want to thank my family for being here to support me," Brown says, "and my wife for entering me in the competition and my two daughters and my son. I just want to thank everybody for supporting me and I look forward to continue on and keep singing and hopefully I do well."
