Over 200 hotel employees and groups were nominated in various categories

The Hotel and Lodging Association of Greater Quincy was honored with the top Illinois Hotel and Lodging Award for the industries Association of the Year.  A group of hoteliers were in attendance at the STARS OF THE INDUSTRY luncheon in Bloomington, Illinois.  Over 200 hotel employees and groups were nominated in various categories ranging from Front Desk to General Manager.

Mariann Barnard, President of the association indicated that while the balloting was secret, “I’m pretty sure our initiative to begin a Lodging Certificate and AA degree in Lodging at John Wood Community College put us ahead of the rest of the pack.

In addition, we donate about $20,000 in free room nights to several groups for community events and fundraisers. Last year we collected just under $800,000 in hotel taxes which is used to fund the operating expenses of the Oakley Lindsay Civic Center.  As you can see, we touch all areas of hospitality in town!  This award recognizes the efforts of the hundreds of hospitality employees and it gives past due recognition to those behind the scenes.  Our entire group is very proud.”

The HLA meets monthly to discuss state hotel issues such as ADA requirements, local tourism concerns, and safety awareness for hotel managers and staff.
