Bidding city projects to local contractors was tabled

An ordinance that would give preference in bidding city projects to local contractors was tabled at Tuesday’s Hannibal City Council meeting.

2nd ward councilman Mike Dobson requested the delay saying he wants to start over with a new ordinance. Dobson wants to make sure the process does not shut out non-local contractors.

Council did give first reading to an ordinance that will amend the city charter to regulate sexually oriented businesses.

City Attorney James Lemon says the ordinance bars sexually oriented businesses from being opened near schools, churches, parks and other similar locations.

It does not affect any business that is already in operation.
