Quincy's Oakley Lindsay Center will host for the second year in a row.
Gem City Gymnastics and Tumbling and the city of Quincy have been named the hosts for the 2013 Illinois AAU Tumbling and Trampoline State Championships May 18, 2013.
The event will take place at the Oakley Lindsay Center. The meet is expected to draw hundreds of athletes and their families to Quincy for the event.
This will be the second time for Quincy to host this event, after having won the 2012 event which took place in Quincy May 19, 2012 at the Oakley Lindsay Center. Prior to Quincy winning the 2012 hosting, past events had always been hosted in larger Illinois cities such as Springfield, Bloomington and Chicago. The 2012 event featured more than 700 events. Qualifiers from the 2013 state championships will advance to the national competition which, in 2013, will take place in Detroit, MI.
To secure the hosting rights to this meet, tumbling team head coach and Gem City Gymnastics and Tumbling co-owner Zeke Cernea made a presentation for Quincy to host the event to all gym owners, coaches and board members from the state of Illinois and won the hosting rights by vote of those individuals.
“It was so exciting to hear all the compliments from coaches and gym owners about the facility, the city of Quincy and the meet itself,” says Cernea. “Earning this two years in a row is extremely exciting both for Gem City Gymnastics and Tumbling and for the city of Quincy. We are beyond excited about this opportunity for both our athletes and for the city of Quincy. We are so appreciative of the huge help provided to us by both Rob Ebbing of the Oakley Lindsay Center and Holly Cain of the Quincy Convention and Visitors Bureau.”
