There has never, ever been a board that believes in "saving the money for a rainy day". They have to SPEND THE MONEY. And even SPEND THE MONEY they haven't even gotten yet.

Illinois inventory of all hogs and pigs on June 1, 2014 was 4.35 million head, unchanged from March 1, 2014 but down 6 percent from last year.

Breeding inventory, at 490,000 head, was down 2 percent from both the previous quarter and last year. Market hog inventory, at 3.86 million head, was up slightly from last quarter but down 7 percent from last year.

The March-May 2014 pig crop, at 2.48 million head, was down 4 percent from 2013. Sows farrowing during this period totaled 250,000 head, the same as a year ago. 

The average pigs saved per litter was 9.90 for the March-May period, compared to 10.30 last year.
