After a month where The City of Quincy and Cape Air made a concentrated push to hit 10,000 passengers in 2012, the momentum seems to have carried over to the new years.
Quincy Regional Airport saw 889 passenger boardings for January. That's 19.5% ahead of the 744 boardings for January 2012.
In 2012, Cape Air ended up strong with 1110 enplanements in the month of December, which was the largest month the airport has had since Cape Air became the airport's essential air service provider. The airline reached an official total of 10,126 revenue passenger boardings for all of last year.
By reaching more than 10,000 enplanements last year, the City of Quincy qualified for a $1 million federal grant for capital infrastructure and safety improvement projects at Quincy Regional Airport. Part of this funding will be used this spring on a $500,000 T-Hangar taxiway Improvement construction project.
"It is good to see that people are taking advantage of this service and that we are off to such a positive start with our passenger boardings for the coming year," said Quincy Mayor John Spring.
