I don't understand why the mayor wanting his vote on record is a bad thing. Transparency is the new thing for politics, right? Some might want to be slippery and two faced, but statesmanship more than political deception seems like a good thing. Accountability, not plausible deniability, is what voters should expect, as I see it.

This is basically the school board telling Maas, Waterkoette, Schlipmann, and Bleigh Construction that they're a bunch of idiots that can't biuld a damn thing. Schlipmann just build a beautiful dorm for QU, Maas built almost the entire JWCC campus and 1st Bankers Trust building. Waterkoette and Bleigh are more than qualified. I really can't think of a bigger insult to our local…
whhm - Lovelace back in court Monday - Quincy, IL News - QuincyJournal.com
According to another news source, he has no money, period. A lower bond would do no good because he won't be able to make that. The trial delays are essentially because of lack of funds to pay his attorneys to mount his defense.

That's the thing, PDS. Even though it can seem like a wasteful/rubber-stamp process, the courts are REQUIRED TO assess whether people are fit BEFORE they can stand trial. The process might seem like a waste of money (because yes it seems like a formality when so few defendants are ever deemed "unfit" to stand trial), but it is a basic procedural step -- just like allowing the accused to hire…

I think Lovelace deserves a bond he can make. Took em some 8 years to file charges, why not grant him bond? He ain't no flight risk, where the hell would he go? What's he gonna do, pull an OJ and drive an SUV 10 mph down I-72 with one of his U of I football buddies? For crying out loud give him a bond he can make. And I'm 100% impartial, not in any of the camps, victim or defendant!!

Illinois union coalition seeks pension injunction

A coalition of unions is asking a Sangamon County judge to prevent a statewide pension overhaul from taking effect until its constitutionality is decided.

We Are One Illinois filed a motion Monday in Springfield seeking a preliminary injunction against the new law. It's supposed to take effect this summer.

The law signed by Gov. Pat Quinn last year essentially cuts benefits for employees and retirees. Illinois has roughly $100 billion in unfunded pension liability.

A We Are One Illinois spokesman says workers will have to make "irrevocable" and "life-altering retirement decisions" based on a law that might not be constitutional. The coalition covers several unions including the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Council 31.

Members of the State Universities Annuitants' Association have filed a similar motion.
