Tenth annual community event takes place Oct. 9
The BlessingCancerCenter will host its tenth annual Community Breast Cancer Awareness Day from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Town & Country Inn and Suites, 110 North 54th Street in Quincy, Ill.
The free community event is for people of all stages and involvement in the breast cancer journey – survivors, their families, friends and anyone with a family history or interest in learning more about the disease.
“Breast cancer not only affects the person diagnosed, it affects families, friends, co-workers and communities,” said Bonnie Kleissle, Administrative Director of the Blessing Cancer Program. “As a service to the community, a team of medical and breast cancer experts will be on hand to provide the latest information on prevention, treatment and survivors’ issues.”
Dave Balch, author of “Cancer for Two” and founder of The Patient Partner Project will be the keynote speaker at 6:30 p.m. In his dynamic and compelling presentation, Dave reveals some of the secrets that helped him and his wife cope with four bouts of breast cancer. Mr. Balch will be available for interviews with the media the day of the event until 4:00 p.m.
“Dave’s presentation is moving and inspirational,” Kleissle said. “Regardless of where you are on your cancer journey, his message fills audiences with confidence and hope.”
Dr. Ethan Philpott, plastic and reconstructive surgeon, will speak about breast reconstruction awareness at 5:00 p.m.
Dr. Christian Zwick, general surgeon and Chairman of the Blessing Cancer Program Committee, will speak about new surgical techniques and breakthroughs at 5:30 p.m.
Exhibitor booths related to women’s health will be featured at the event from 4 to 8 p.m.
The Community Breast Cancer Awareness Day is presented by the BlessingCancerCenter with support from Blessing Hospital, Quincy Medical Group and local community organizations.
