The council decided that cheap garbage and free yard waste was more important that public safety. We got new garbage trucks instead of policemen. These were just a few of the alternatives the mayor offered to fund city government but the "Buds" on the council kept voting NO. There is no FREE LUNCH. No firemen were fired and no policemen were fired so it's not all doom and gloom.

It's Ferguson all over again as the Mayor of Baltimore, who's an idiot, and the Governor stood by as the thugs and criminals went wild. Both knew the situation was going to get out of hand yet they sat on their hands and didn't show any force to stop it before it developed into a full blown riot. The National Guard should have been deployed before the situation deteriorated into chaos.…

I didn't sit on every budget meeting because that's not my job, nor do I have the time too. That's what my tax dollars go to, representation. My alderman voted against this budget, as did five others. So my guess is that others who have sat through everything also feel the way I do.

Well, it seems you have all the answers on how the city should manage it's money. I'm glad to know you sat in on every meeting, including executive sessions, and know where every dollar on every line-item of the budget it going. With all of your vast knowledge and presence at these meetings, though, I'm surprised you didn't offer up a better alternative, since it seems you know…

We need to respect our police, they are the only thing that stands between us and the chaos like they have in Baltimore.

Adams Co. Board supports clerk's stance on same-sex marriage licenses

County will wait until law becomes official in June

The Adams County Board voted to support Adams County Clerk Georgia Volm's stance on same sex marriage licenses.

Becky Weed (R-District 2) made the motion to agree with Volm's decision to wait until issuing any licenses until the Illinois law becomes official on June 1.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan has told Illinois' county clerks they have the right to immediately issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples following a federal judge's ruling last month Illinois' original ban was unconstitutional.

The County Board will also send a letter to State Sen. John Sullivan (D-Rushville) to oppose a Senate Bill Sullivan is co-sponsoring that would give the state the authority to legislate placement of wind turbines throughout the state and supercede the county's authority.

The Legislative and Judicial Committee also provided a noise ordinance for Board members to review.
