The civil contract of marriage is completely unrelated to the religious union and those that confuse the two, on both sides of the argument, are growing tiresome. This ruling was about discrimination in the government's recognition of a civil contract, not some infringement on religion...although it is disheartening the supremes left that door open. Until some same-sex couple successfully sues…

Legislators passed hundreds of laws that take effect January 1

Legislators in Illinois were busy this past year creating and passing new laws which go into effect on January 1st.

Some of those new laws included banning tanning for those under 18, a puppy lemon law, legalizing medical marijuana, banning the use of cell phones in cars (except with a hands free device), adding cigarettes to the definition of litter and raising the speed limit to 70 on most interstates.
