Erica Borggren says IVH is adding more direct care staff
Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs Director Erica Borggren visited the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy Wednesday morning.
Borggren's visit was one of a series of regular visits she makes to the four Illinois Veterans Homes each year to meet with residents and staff to - as she said - "get a sense of how things are going." Borggren called Quincy the flagship home for the state.
She noted that all veterans home locations in Illinois are hiring up, adding more direct care staff.
“So we’re actually hiring now in the Quincy area,” said Borggren. “Especially for weekend and part-time, to try and help on the weekends when we’ve traditionally had less staff.”
As far as staffing numbers goes, Borggren says the department is using a different kind of staffing model.
“We’ve gone to the Directors of Nursing in each of our homes, including here in Quincy. We’ve asked them, ‘Where is it that you could use that help? Our model would say this but you tell us where you need to use these plus-up dollars’,” said Borggren. “Where our Directors of Nursing have told us they need that assistance is on the weekends.”
She said the Quincy site will be hiring at least 25 part time workers.
