The Northeast Missouri Chapter of the American Red Cross will be merged into the Adams County Chapter.
After deciding last month to close the Northeast Missouri Chapter - Red Cross leadership in St. Louis and National Red Cross disaster officials met to determine the best way to service the Northeast Missouri area.
After a deep assessment of the geographic area and inter-Red Cross relationships, they concluded that the counties of Clark, Lewis, Marion, Monroe, Ralls and Shelby counties should join the Red Cross chapter in Quincy.
Pam Shaffer, Executive Director of the Red Cross in Quincy said that despite the changes in Northeast Missouri, area residents will be able to count on the same great service they have always received.
Schaffer said "Fire clients will have the peace of mind in knowing that the Red Cross will be there to provide immediate disaster assistance. Military families will still be connected in a crisis no matter how many miles separate them; lifesaving training will be offered to make our communities healthier and safer; and blood drives will still take place, ensuring a stable blood supply for our nation and community."
And Schaffer says all of those services and life safety classes will still be based in Hannibal.
She said the Red Cross vehicles will be parked at the Marion County Ambulance District headquarters.
