House minority leader seeks statewide post
The outgoing minority leader of the Illinois House made his way to Quincy Regional Airport today as part of his multi-day statewide fly-around to announce his candidacy for state treasurer.
Tom Cross, who was weighing a bid for attorney general before incumbent Democrat Lisa Madigan announced she was going to run for re-election to the post instead of making a gubernatorial run, said if he is elected, he will consider legal action to make sure the state legislature and administration balance the state's budget.
Cross has been a state representative from Oswego since 1992 and the House Republican leader since 2002, when he won in his party's caucus over former State Rep. Art Tenhouse (R-Liberty).
Tenhouse's successor, State Rep. Jil Tracy (R-Quincy), helped introduce Cross at today's stop. Tracy is seeking the office of Lt. Governor, running with gubernatorial candidate State Sen. Kirk Dillard (R-Hinsdale).
