Traffic flowing following Newcomb debris cleanup
The intersection at 4th and Maine in Quincy is bustling with traffic again.
Workers have reopened 4th Street as well as Maine Street.
Quincy's Director of Central Services Marty Stegeman is hopeful that 4th Street will reopen late this afternoon following closure from five days of fire and demolition at the Newcomb Hotel.
The hotel, built in 1888, was destroyed by fire last Friday and demolition work continues today.
Stegeman said the Illinois Department of Transportation is bringing additional barriers and signs from Springfield this morning. It is considered a state route as traffic from the South moves from York to 4th Street from Illinois 57.
Stegeman said the city has to have the traffic signals back up before Maine Street can be reopened. He says the eastbound lane may be reopened by 5 p.m., but he thinks it will probably take until Thursday morning.
