I don't see why not. Those very same elected officials (at the state level, anyway) seem to think it's perfectly acceptable to renege on established contracts when they decide it cost too much to honor the commitment. Good for the goose, right? (BTW, this isn't an issue of whether you support unions or not. Even if you hate them and think they screwed everyone over with their contracts,…

Hmmm...fox guarding the hen house comes to mind. Maybe somebody should start a petition? One to change council to 7 members, the other for healthcare? Paul Havermale is apparently planning to submit a petition of 500 wanting to save the fire station. We ought to be able to beat that if people really want this. Mind you not many people are running for alderman...so taking away benefits may not be the…

We are discussing ways to save money. This is ONE way to save enough money to keep some public safety intact. Just because you seem to have a vested interest in this proposal doesn't mean it should be ignored! Plenty of other city's get by with only 1 city manager, and a part time mayor. I understand the council has made some bone head decisions, but Righty1, I mean Hackamack, has also waisted…

10th annual "Ploughman's Lunch"

2 years, 5 months ago by Denise Donley

Lunch will be from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

On Wednesday November 14, 2012 Christ Lutheran Church, 333 South 36th Street, Quincy, IL will sponsor the 10th Annual “Ploughman’s’ Lunch” from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Church.

Lunch will consist of Chili, Vegetable Soup or Chicken Noodle soup with rolls, cheese, dessert and drink for $6.00 ($3.00 for children).  Tickets may be purchased at the door and carry-outs are available.

All proceeds will benefit the YWCA and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will match the proceeds.

The custom of a Ploughman’s Lunch was originated in England and was meant as a quick, hearty meal that could be eaten at the side of the field so that work could continue.  In the mid 1950’s the tradition was revived by British Pubs as a marketing tool to increase sales.

Past Ploughman’s Lunches have raised a total of more that $14,000.00 to benefit many local organizations.
